Draft documents with artifacts

When you ask the Copilot to draft something substantial (a policy, a memo, a clause set), it produces an artifact: a document that opens in a side panel next to the chat, keeps its versions as you iterate, and can be downloaded or saved into your Document Library.

How artifacts appear

  1. Ask for a draft ("Draft an AML policy outline for a Malta operator").
  2. The Copilot emits the draft as an artifact; the side panel opens automatically while it streams.
  3. Keep chatting to revise ("tighten section 3", "add a record-keeping clause"). Each revision of the same artifact becomes a new version; nothing is overwritten.

You can also turn an ordinary chat reply into an artifact: hover the message and choose save as artifact.

Drafting runs on the server. If you close the tab, switch threads, or lose your connection mid-draft, the artifact still finishes, and the panel reopens on it when you come back.

Work with versions

  1. Artifact cards in the thread open the panel at that version.
  2. Use the version dropdown in the panel header to switch between versions; the newest is current.
  3. Versions are permanent: you can always go back and download an earlier one.

Download

From the panel you can download the current version as:

  • PDF
  • Word (.docx)
  • Markdown

Downloads carry the artifact content as-is; review before sending anything externally.

Save to the Document Library

If you created the conversation and hold the library upload permission:

  1. Click Save to Library in the panel. The artifact is rendered to PDF and lands as a library document.
  2. After further revisions, the button changes to offer saving the new version: re-saving adds a new version to the same library document rather than creating a duplicate.
  3. The library document records its origin, so you can trace it back to the conversation.

From the library it behaves like any other document: file it, share it, send it for signature, or open it in the editor.

Editable copy: contract or template

The PDF save is a rendered output. To keep working on the text, use Editable copy in the panel:

  • Save as editable contract converts the draft into contract-builder blocks (headings, clauses, lists, tables) as a new draft contract in the library and opens it in the builder.
  • Save as template… does the same conversion but files the result as a workspace template in the Templates section, with a category and description. Any {{placeholder}} the Co-pilot wrote becomes a fill-in variable when someone uses the template.

Both create a separate document from the PDF save, so you can keep an executed PDF and an editable source side by side.

Resize the panel

Drag the divider between chat and panel to resize; on small screens the panel opens as a sheet instead. Project viewers reading a shared thread see its artifacts read-only.
