The Risk Screener checks the people, companies, and crypto wallets around your business against sanctions lists, politically exposed person (PEP) registers, watchlists, and blockchain risk data. This article explains what it covers and how the pieces fit together.
What you can screen
- Entities and individuals. Your own company, its ultimate beneficial owners (UBOs) and directors, and counterparties such as vendors and partners. Matches come from our screening data provider and cover sanctions, PEP status, and watchlists.
- Crypto wallets. Wallet addresses are checked through our blockchain analytics provider for exposure to sanctioned actors, darknet markets, scams, and other risk categories.
Both live under Risk Screener in the sidebar: the Entities & Individuals tab and the Wallets tab.
Two layers of risk, one honest score
Entity screening separates two things that are often blurred together:
- Inherent risk is the score. It combines hits on the subject itself with hits on the parties that own or control it (UBOs, directors, and corporate owners, weighted by ownership percentage). This is what the Clear, Elevated, High, or Severe band on the KYB Manager reflects.
- Network exposure covers counterparties: vendors, partners, and the other outside parties recorded in the Relationships register. Their hits are screened and shown alongside the score, but they are never added into it. A risky counterparty is something to review, not something that silently inflates your entity's own risk.
PEP status is also kept separate: it is a flag for enhanced due diligence, not a number that raises the score. See Understanding screening results for the full model.
Screening credits
Screening runs draw on your workspace's screening credit allowance. Administrators receive a notification when the workspace reaches 80% and 100% of its allowance. If you run out, contact support@complywise.io or your account contact to raise the limit.
Auto-screening
For wallets, your workspace can turn on auto-screening: a master toggle plus per-wallet enrolment re-screens enrolled wallets on a schedule, so monitored addresses stay current without manual runs. Entity and individual screenings are run on demand.
Who can screen
Screening requires the screening permission, which Workspace Admins and Editors hold by default, plus the Risk Screener module being enabled for your workspace. Members without the permission can be shown results but cannot start runs. If the Risk Screener is not visible in your sidebar, ask your administrator or support@complywise.io about enabling it.
