Every client workspace carries a client type that tells the platform team how much of the client's compliance work they run on the client's behalf. It changes what the platform team is told about, not what the client's own members can do.
The two types
- Service client: the platform team administers compliance for this workspace as a service. Platform staff can subscribe to notifications about activity in it (off by default). This is the default type for every workspace.
- App-only client: the client runs the platform on its own. No platform-side notifications are sent.
Where it is set
- In the provisioning wizard, the Relationship step asks which type the new workspace is.
- In the Workspaces console, open a workspace's Manage drawer; the Client type control switches it at any time. The console shows the type as a chip on each workspace and can filter by it.
- A workspace provisioned from an access request starts as App-only, since the requester asked to run it themselves; switch it if the engagement changes.
Only platform staff can change the type; it is recorded in the workspace's audit trail.
What platform staff can subscribe to
Nothing from a service client reaches platform staff unless they opt in. Each staff member chooses, under Service clients on their profile's Notifications tab, which event groups land in their bell feed, their inbox, both, or neither. Every group is off by default. The groups are:
- Documents: a document is uploaded or filed as a new version, or a template is taken.
- Sharing & collection links: a share or collection link is created, or a party uploads through one.
- Team changes: a member is invited, changes role, or is removed.
- Legal AI runs: a DDQ or review is created or completed, or a fact sheet is exported.
- Audits: an audit pack is created, items are added, or a response lands.
- Provisioning: a new workspace is provisioned.
- E-sign envelopes: an envelope is sent, completed, voided, declined, or has changes requested.
- Screening hits: a wallet or entity screening returns a hit.
- Verification flags: an AI or reviewer check flags a document.
- Document expiry: a document nears or passes its expiry.
- Credits running low: a credit pool passes 80% or runs out.
Each notification links to the workspace's Manage drawer. Bursts are bundled: every subscribed event lands in the bell feed, and email goes out at most once per ten minutes per workspace. The person who performed the action is never notified about it. A platform Member limited to specific workspaces hears only about those.

Tags
Platform staff can tag any workspace, including the platform's own, from its Manage drawer (for example every workspace that belongs to one client). Pick a tag from the list or type a new name to add one; tags are shared across the platform team. Tags show in their own column on the Client Workspaces page, and the filter row gains one chip per tag in use.
