Screen a crypto wallet

Wallet screening checks a crypto address through our blockchain analytics provider and turns its exposure into a clear verdict: Flag, Review, or Clear. This article shows you how to screen an address and how to read and resolve the result.

Before you start

  • You need the screening permission, held by Workspace Admins and Editors by default, and wallet screening enabled for your workspace.
  • Each screen uses screening credits from your workspace allowance.

Run an ad-hoc screen

  1. Open Risk Screener and switch to the Wallets tab.
  2. Enter the wallet address and pick its network. ComplyWise validates the address format for the chosen network before anything is sent, so a mistyped address fails immediately rather than producing a meaningless result.
  3. Run the screen. The wallet joins the wallet register with its verdict.

The three verdicts

VerdictMeaning
FlagSerious exposure found, or the address is on your workspace denylist; treat as blocked until cleared
ReviewExposure that needs a human decision before you proceed
ClearExposure is within your workspace's thresholds

Verdicts come from your workspace's screening rulebook: exposure categories, tiers, and thresholds that your administrator can tune. See Configure screening rules.

Read the report

Click a wallet to open its report:

  • Exposure breakdown. Every risk category the provider found, grouped by severity tier, with the share of exposure in each. Tier definitions are explained in a disclosure on the page.
  • Triggered rules. Which rules produced the verdict, shown as labeled pills with their tier.
  • Analyst table. The underlying exposure entities, grouped by whether funds flowed from them (source) or to them (destination), so an analyst can trace exactly where the risk sits.
  • Exchange context. If the wallet belongs to a known exchange, the report shows an exchange identity chip. By default, certain strong signals are softened for exchange-hosted wallets, because a large exchange's aggregate exposure is not the same as a private wallet's; your administrator can turn this softening off.
  • Pre-flag banner. If the address matched your workspace's denylist, a banner shows the reason recorded with the entry. The screen still runs and the evidence is kept, but the verdict is forced to Flag.

Resolve a Review or Flag

A Review or Flag verdict stays open until someone decides:

  1. Open the wallet's report and find the clearance panel.
  2. Add a comment explaining your decision, then clear (or uphold) the verdict.
  3. The clearance is recorded in the wallet's history alongside the run, so the decision and its reasoning stay auditable.
