An envelope completes when the last signer, and the countersigner if you added one, has signed. This article covers what ComplyWise generates at that moment, who is told, and where everyone finds their copies.
The signed PDF and the certificate
At completion, ComplyWise produces two new files and attaches them to the document as new versions:
- The signed document: the sent PDF with every adopted signature and filled field burned into the pages.
- The signing certificate: a separate summary page listing each party, their consent and signing timestamps, network details, and the checksums that tie the evidence to the exact file that was signed.
Both appear in the document's version history, tagged Signed and Certificate, alongside the original versions.
Who gets notified
Everyone on the envelope with an email address receives a completion message:
- Signers get a message with a fresh copy of their private link, from which they download both files.
- Viewers get a notification that the envelope completed.
- You (the sender) get a message linking back to the document in your workspace.
Recipients without an email aren't emailed, but their existing link now serves the downloads: point them back to it.
Where to download
- Signers open their signing link: the completed state offers both the signed document and the certificate.
- In your workspace, open the document: the E-sign tab and the version history both offer the downloads, and the e-sign dashboard row does too.
Countersigning with Sign now
If your envelope includes a countersigner on your own team, they sign last, after every signer has finished. Countersigners hold a signing link like anyone else, and there's a shortcut:
- When the envelope reaches the signed state (all signers done, countersign outstanding), open the envelope panel.
- If one of the recipients' email addresses matches your signed-in account, its row shows Sign now.
- Click it to open your signing page, then consent and sign as usual. See Sign a document you received for the signing steps.
Once the countersigner signs, the envelope completes and the two files are generated.
